There are multiple possible reasons as to why a student struggles with writing. Teachers must take the time to find out what is causing the child to struggle with writing in order to be able to provide assistance to the child. As in the story, Mrs. Wright sat with Sally many times to figure out what was causing this writing struggle such as difficulty with word choice, brainstorming, spelling, organization, etc. Once figuring out the cause, Mrs. Wright was able to use the appropriate strategies to help Sally improve in the area of writing which she was struggling with.
